PRODUCTIVITY LOG TOUR
The Productivity Log is an integral part of the Service Manager System. It is
a Microsoft Works spreadsheet used to track how productive mechanics are, in
terms of dollars of labor generated per hour worked. This information is useful
in evaluating individual mechanic’s performance. It is also a critical piece
of information needed when using the Production Schedule.
- The illustration below shows a partial Productivity Log, including
information for one mechanic for one week. The entire spreadsheet enables
tracking productivity for up to 15 mechanics at a time for four weeks. All you
have to do to use the Productivity Log is fill in the yellow cells with
information such as the date the week begins, the name of the mechanic, and the
labor dollar value of each job completed by each mechanic.

- At the end of the week, the Production Log automatically generates summary
information for the week in the blue and green cells (see below). The summary
information includes: how much work was completed each day, what the weekly
total is, what the rate of productivity per hour was, and to what mechanic and
week the summaries apply. The illustration below shows that for the week ending
7/1/2001, John A. did $1401.00 of service work at the rate of $35.03 per hour.

- After keeping a production log current for four weeks, one additional piece
of summary data is automatically calculated. As the dark green cells in the
illustration below show, for the four-week period ending 7/22/01, John A.
averaged producing $41.60 of service work per hour worked.
